The heavy rain stopped in the morning and fresh green appeared beautifully although it was cloudy. I got purple peony flowers from Ms. T, who is a local farmer and put them in a vase. I also decorated two warrior dolls for celebrating the Boy's Festival which will be May 5th. I like the dignified but very warm faces of the dolls and would like to keep watching them endlessly. The flowers at the entrance are Kerria (Japanese rose), Gymnaderia savatierti, and others which Mrs.Y brought to me from Hikone. White flowers are from Monzen Market.
The Disastrous Ukraine and the calm place here in my place are tremendous differences and both are real. I keep thinking about it.

Taga Taisha spring festival was held gorgeously under fine weather. When I heard the drum sound in the distance which let people know the procession starts, I had an exhilarating feeling. The drum sound gradually got louder and I could hear special guys' voices energetically. The procession was approaching. About thirty horses with people who were wearing traditional dress passed by in front of me, clattering of hoofs. It was really nice and I enjoyed it very much. Batoh-nin (Horse bead man) this year was Mr. N. Nishiyama who is a president of a textile company in Toyosato. Most of the people in the procession were wearing face coverings and it looked so warm under a bit of strong sunlight.

Because of the last heavy snow and leaving it unattended for several decades, the backyard house had a damaged roof and floor, I asked the building contractor to repair it. I am using this house for keeping things for the events such as folding chairs, vinyl floor, black curtains, etc and I also put an old piano, old kimonos from grandmother or great grandmother, books, and other things which I usually don't use. Therefore the inside of the house is a mess. I started to clean it up roughly anyhow. There was an old Japanese doll inside a glass case and I decided to throw it away, so I removed the glass, crushed them into small pieces, and put them in a cloth bag because we needed to throw them away in this way. Then I took the doll and saw it. It was still very nice, so I put it on the alcove in the guest room before throwing it away. The design and color of the kimono is nice, and her hair is beautifully tied. There is no damage or stains at all.
I deeply apologized to the doll for my previous feeling to throw her away.

He plays both traditional and modern flutes and also western classical music, jazz, improvisation, etc with various players and symphonies in various genres to create an original music world which is Japanese - western fusion.

Mr. T kindly gave me bamboo shoots which were with little wet soil because they were just after digging. He said that he needed to dig them up before wild monkeys found and ate them.

When I hear "bamboo shoots", " bamboo shoots rice" comes to my head first. Before cooking, I peeled the skin first, then boiled the bamboo shoots to make them soft. Cut them into the proper size and cooked with some seasoning and fried tofu. Beautiful bamboo shoots rice was made and I enjoyed it very much.

Local resident, Ms.T brought branches of pear for me, so I put them in the flower jar to decorate the alcove. The flowers are white and beautiful. Ms. K also brought an armful of daffodils. When we had heavy snow at the end of last December, one of the peach branches broke and it was left on the ground as it was. Yesterday I found many pale pink flowers at the top of the branches, so I cut some of them and put them into the same jar in the alcove. I also found some flowers at a broken branch of a cherry tree in the backyard which has already been damaged by some insects and the heavy snow which had also attacked the cherry tree. The broken branch was connected to the tree with thin bark.

Watching Youtube, I see many towns were destroyed miserably by the war in Ukraine and know an incredible number of lives were lost easily. On the other hand, I was amazed by the power of nature. Even broken branches absorbed water through the very thin bark and opened pretty flowers. I don't know what to say and stay silent.

It was cloudy in the morning and then it turned to a rainy cold April Sunday. I served Izanami Lunch (a special lunch every first Sunday of the month) in which I imagined "spring" on the menu. White radish sprouts rolled with smoked salmon with dill paste on top, broccoli with peanut butter sauce, Chinese style stir fry of salmon, potatoes and green leaves, spinach and crown daisy with sesame sauce, carottes rapees, and fried stuffed lotus root. As for the last one, I cooked it in a different way from what I usually do and it was so good as a result.

It was a clear fine day. There is a Japanese traditional ritual for babies called Okuizome (first meal) that parents perform around the 100th day after the birth of their baby to wish the infant will never starve and it was held at my space. I have never experienced this celebration, and I didn't know what to do for them when I was requested. I got the information from the internet and prepared the special food for the celebration. Since I cannot bake sea bream which is the symbol fish for this kind of celebration, I asked a fishmonger of a supermarket to bake and I put some decoration on it afterward. The number of the family members were ten including their baby. They looked so happy to get together and have such a special celebration for the baby. I am grateful that they came to my cafe to have Okuizome, after visiting Taga Taisha.
