    カフェ開店と同時にお顔を見せてくださったNさんが彦根出身の水泳の大橋悠依選手が４００Mメドレーで金メダルを取ったと教えてくださり思わず拍手！物凄い朗報です。オリンピックが日本で行われているというのにTVのない我が家では競技を見ること叶わず残念この上なし。結果を聞いてYoutubeで競技の模様を少し見ることができました。長身ながら細身の大橋さんが強豪の外国勢の中で一位になったのは快挙。大橋さんは子供の頃からスイミングスクールで指導を受けてきたとのこと。学校にプールもなく夏は川で水遊びをしていた私の時代とは大違いです。山あり川ありの恵まれた自然環境で育ったことをありがたく思いますが、川遊びで泳ぎが上手になるはずがありません。飛び魚のように泳ぐ大橋さんを夢見心地で見惚れました。

    Mr. N stopped by the cafe just after opening, and let me know that Ms. Yui Ohasi, a swimmer from Hikone in Shiga, got a Gold Medal in the 400m individual medley. What exciting news it was! I clapped my hands to congratulate her. Actually I did not know about her until Mr.N told me. The Olympic games have just opened on the 23rd but since I don't have a TV at home I have no chance to watch any games live which is too bad. When I hear the result, I am able to watch a video clip on Youtube which is still fun. It was a great achievement for her to get a Gold Medal among other super powerful athletes from all over the countries. I heard that Y.Ohashi learned swimming at a swimming school, and this is very different from myself, since I was raised in the countryside village with no pool in both elementary and junior high school. I appreciate that I grew up in the countryside which has a lot of nature such as mountains and rivers. However, there was no way for us to learn how to swim well by just playing in the river. I was fascinated watching Y.Ohashi's swimming, who swims like a flying fish.

    N.Nさんから桃原の紅花（べにばな）をいただきました。トゲトゲの紅花を積むのは大変だったと思います。紅花といえば、ジブリのアニメ「おもひでポロポロ」をいつも思い出します。江戸時代、山形の貧しい農家の娘たちが朝早く指を血で真っ赤にしながら紅花を摘んだ悲哀が中で語られます。でもお話はハッピーエンディング。大好きなアニメです。それと、この「おもひでポロポロ」はアメリカの大学で教えていた時長く教材として取り扱っていたので、アニメを思い出すと同時に学生たちの様々な顔が蘇ってきて私自身の「おもひでポロポロ」なのです。経験を積みながら仕事をしている人、家庭をもった人、皆たくましくも美しい女性たちです。
　

    Ms. N.N. gave me BENIBANA (safflower) which she picked at Mobara mountain. It must have been hard to pick because a lot of thorns are there. Whenever I hear Benibana, I recall Ghibli's animation "Only Yesterday". In the film, a short story was introduced of young women in a poor farmer's family in Yamagata prefecture in Edo period who picked Benibana with their fingers, red with blood because of the thorns. It was a bit of a sad story, but the animation itself concluded with a happy ending. I like this anime very much. In addition, I used this anime in my Japanese class in the US for many years. Therefore every time when I recall this anime, I also recall many of my students' faces. Indeed it is also "Only Yesterday" to me. Many of them are working, gaining their experiences, many of them got married and have families. They are all tough and beautiful women.

    We would like to introduce a new menu in Taga Asahiya.
These are traditional Japanese desserts. The first one is called Shiratama Anmitsu which are sweet dumplings made of sweet rice flour, Azuki Anko (sweet red bean paste), Kanten (small cubes of agar jelly which is a pure form of gelatin made from red seaweed and fruits are in the bowl served with Kuromitsu (sweet black syrup) which you pour over the bowl. The second one is Shiratama Cream Anmitsu which has ice cream added in it.

　多賀町にお住まいのKさんがお友達のMさんと布谷さんのマリンバの切符をカフェに受け取りに来てくださったのですが、その際に珍しいお花をお土産にくださいました。「トケイソウ」という花だそうで、花をよく見ると確かに秒針の刻まれた時計板の上に時計の針がついているようです。お茶の先生を長くなさっていただけあって、お花のことはよくご存知で勉強になります。このトケイソウ、調べると英語名はPassion flowerで「キリスト受難の花」とありました。passionというと「情熱」という意味を思い浮かべますが、この場合は「受難」の意味だそうです。つる性の常緑多年草。KさんとMさんがお帰りになって花瓶に移そうとした時に初めて気が付いたのですが、お花を入れてあったペットボトル、途中で切って持ちやすいように丁寧に紐がついていました。何と丁寧なことをなさるのかと感激しました。

    Ms.K living in Taga came to pick up tickets for Nunoya's Marimba concert with her friend, Ms.M. She brought interesting flowers for me. She said it is "Tokeiso (clock flower)". Indeed it looks like a clock board with clock hands. Since Ms.K had been teaching tea ceremony for a long time, she knows about flowers very well and every time she comes to the cafe, I learn a lot of things from her. "Clock flower" is a Japanese name but in English it is "(Christ ) Passion flower". It is a climbing, perennial, evergreen plant. After Ms.K and Ms.M left and I was about to move the flowers from the plastic bottle in which she put the flowers into a vase, I found that a regular plastic bottle was cut in the middle and a rope was placed in order to make it easy to carry. What a thoughtful idea she had. I was very impressed by it.

    雨による土石流が民家を押し流していく熱海の恐ろしい映像は、殊に斜面や山間部に暮らす人びとを恐怖に陥れたにちがいありません。多賀町も山間部に集落が多くあります。山の開発は慎重に慎重を重ねなければなりません。

    さて、日曜日のイザナミランチは、鯖のエスカベージュ（鯖を揚げてドレッシングに漬けたもの）、なすとピーマンの焼き浸し、マッシュポテト、鳥の唐揚げ、サヤインゲンの胡麻和え、ほうれん草の白和え、金時豆、黒豆ご飯、ガスパチョ（スペイン風冷静スープ）。例によって和洋折衷ですが、店内で召し上がってくださったお客様、お持ち帰りくださったお客様、ありがとうございました。

    We saw a scary news video in which flowing debris swept away houses caused by lots of rain in Atami, and it must have made people frightened who are living in mountain slope or in the mountain. There are also many villages on the mountain side in Taga. We need to be very careful to cultivate mountains.

    By the way, we made Izanami Lunch last Sunday. The menu was the following: Escabeche of mackerel, Grilled eggplant and green pepper in Japanese broth, Mashed potatoes, Fried chicken, Green beans with sesame sauce, Japanese tofu and spinach salad dressed with sesame and miso, Sweet boiled red kidney beans, Black soybean rice and Gazpacho (Spanish cold soup). It was half Japanese, half Western cooking. We thank very much both customers who ate in the cafe and ordered lunch takeout.
